Acidity refers to an increased level of acid in the stomach. In the stomach, hydrochloric acid is a digestive juice. Which breaks down food particles, in their smaller form, to aid digestion. When there is excessive amount of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, the condition is known as acidity.
Amla means sour and pitta means heat). Hence amlapitta is a condition that leads to increased belching and burning sensation in the body. Increased pitta reduces the digestive fire.
Thereby leading to improper digestion of food and production of ama (toxins). This tends to accumulate in the digestive channels and cause acidity. Ayurvedic treatment of acidity should pacify the aggravated pitta dosha.
Symptoms:
Rigidity in abdomen, loss of appetite, constipation, indigestion, sour belching, actual vomiting, feeling of uneasiness.
Cause:
The main cause of acidity is the aggravation of pitta dosha in the body. There are many reasons for the increase of bile, the main ones are:
1. Don’t eat foods that don’t correspond to foods. Such as milk and fish, milk and salt, excessive sour or spicy food and excessive fluid intake, fatty products, white sugar products, smoking and excessive consumption of tea, coffee and alcohol, stopping the urge to urinate and stool.
2. Waking up late at night, excessive stress, anger and hunger, excessive exposure to sun and heat and gastro-duodenal ulcer.
Diet and lifestyle:
*Avoid tea, coffee, and carbonated or alcoholic beverages.
- Avoid processed and fermented foods.
- In cooking, avoid using garlic, ginger, onion, tomato, and vinegar.
- At night, curd should be strictly avoided.
- Take meals at regular intervals in a relaxed, environment.
- Practice yoga and pranayama such as Vajrasana, Bhujangasana, Salabhasana, Bhastrika Pranayama, Shitali Pranayama and Shikhari Pranayama.
Ayurvedic treatment : - Consume Amla ka Murabba empty stomach in the morning.
- Mix equal quantity of Shatavari, Liquorice and Amla, take 1-2 spoons, daily 2-2 times, with water.
